Listen to people's grouses, Mojigoh tells KL

PENAMPANG: Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh said the Federal Government should seriously listen to the people's grouses instead of threatening its critics with firm action or imprisonment.

The Putatan MP said the sentiments of seceding Sabah out from Malaysia came about because the people were unhappy with the Federal Government.

He was asked to comment on a statement by Kalabakan MP Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh when debating the Budget 2015 recently.

Ghapur had said that it was not a surprise that a so-called secessionist movement was taking root in Sabah given the lopsided policies accorded to a state that helped BN retain power in the previous two general elections.

"That is true. I agree with Ghapur. That is why all these sentiments of not happy with the Federal Government came about," said Mojigoh during a Deepavali Open House hosted by Sabah MIC Assistant Secretary Balachandran at his residence at Kg Babah Bunduon, Penampang.

He said it must be remembered that Sabah gave a lot of support to the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government during the general election until they were able to memerintah (became the government) again.

On the issue of Rumah Mesra Rakyat and affordable houses, he said it was the Federal Government that made the promise to Sabah. But instead of implementing it in Sabah, it was implemented in Langkawi and Putrajaya and urban areas.

"So, why are the poor in Sabah and Sarawak are not given such housing?" he asked adding that only three of such programme or projects have been planned.

However, these have yet to be implemented while the ones in Langkawi and Putrajaya have already been implemented. Sarawak, he said, was promised only two Federal-funded housing projects.

On the issue of Pan Borneo Highway, Mojigoh said Sabahan contractors simply have no chance against wealthy companies from the peninsula.

He said the 50km Express Highway in Klang Valley cost RM5.3 billion to construct and yet Sabah and Sarawak were given only slightly more than RM2 billion for the construction of its basic facilities and infrastructure such as roads.

"Is this not menganak-tirikan (marginalising or sidelining) Sabah and Sarawak?

"And why only the rich (Klang Valley is largely populated by wealthy residents) are given priority who did not even vote for the Barisan Nasional?" he asked.

Klang Valley, he said, is under the opposition but Sabah and Sarawak who supported the BN through thick and thin in the previous two general elections were not deservingly rewarded.

It is for this reason, among other reasons, he said that groups such as the Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia (SSKM) were formed.

These people are not stupid and they are unhappy, he said.

"So, the government have to listen. It is very important for the government to listen to the people.

"Janganlah ada menghasut keluar Malaysia, ambil tindakan…mau dijel lah… mau di kasi active itu akta hasutan lah (When there is an instigation to secede from Malaysia, don't simply take action or threaten to imprison them or to activate the Sedition Act," he said.

When leaders from Kuala Lumpur utter all the threats, he said, the people would get angry.

"Siapa tidak marah? Saya pun marah because saya orang Sabah. Ini seolah-olah menghina kepada orang Sabah dan Sarawak. Sikit-sikit mau tangkap. Sikit-sikit mau kasi jail. It is not good. (Who would not be angry? I will be angry too because I am a Sabahan. This (threats) is insulting the people of Sabah and Sarawak. Just a small incident, you want to arrest or imprison)," he said.

Hence, he said, the leaders must listen to the people, "Come down and listen to the people and sort out their problem," he said.

He questioned why President of controversial Perkasa organisation, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, he was not charged for threatening to burn the Bible.

He said that there were posters of Ibrahim caricature stepping on the Bible with his two feet that were hung in Penampang, Tuaran and other places.

Mojigoh claimed that there was also a footnote on the posters that says all the pages in the Bible will be used as toilet paper.

"It also said for one vote for the BN, one Bible will be burned," he said.
